Read Time:1 Minute, 29 Second

Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) nominee for governor on November 11, 2023, lost his local government seat to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Melaye, who is from Kogi State’s Ijumu Local Government Area, received 6,909 votes in the local government, compared to Usman Ododo’s 10,524 votes for the APC.

As of the time this report was filed, the state was still compiling results from local governments.

Out in Kogi, INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu was gathering results from twenty-one local government areas. Ajaokuta, Adavi, Ankpa, Bassa, Dekina, Ibaji, Idah, Ijumu, Igalamela-Odolu, Kabba/Bunu, Kogi, Lokoja, Mopa-Muro, Olamaboro, Ofu, Okehi, Omala, Ogori/Magongo, Okene, Yagba East, and Yagba West are the names of these people.

Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Leke Abejide of the African Democratic Party (ADC), Dino Melaye of the PDP, and Usman Ododo of the APC—an ex-Auditor General of Local Government in Kogi under Governor Yahaya Bello, who is wrapping up his two terms of eight years—are among the leading candidates for the November 11, 2023, election in Kogi.

Melaye had alerted the authorities on Saturday of “filled result sheets” in the North Central State’s Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area. In addition, the PDP candidate demanded that the exercise be stopped due to violence and vote-buying. Following that, INEC halted voting in nine local government area wards.

Similar to Kogi, governorship elections were held on Saturday in Bayelsa and Imo states. Governor Hope Uzodimma of the APC defeated 15 rivals, including Samuel Anyanwu of the PDP and Nneji Achonu of the Labour Party (LP). With 540,308 votes, Uzodimma defeated his nearest competitors, Anyanwu of the PDP (71,503) and Achonu of the LP (64,081).
