CJN URGE JUDGES TO MANTAIN THE INTEGRITY THAT JUDICIARY IS KNOWN FOR
Judge Olukayode Ariwoola, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, has urged judges to uphold the reputation of honesty in the judiciary and to continue to render decisions that are just and impartial.
Speaking during the 58 newly granted Senior Advocates of Nigeria’s swearing-in ceremony in Abuja, the Chief Justice of Nigeria presided over the inaugural session of the 2023–2024 legal year.
Ariwoola went on to say that he wants all judicial officers to work really hard, be incredibly honest and polite to litigants, witnesses, and members of the bar, and carry out all of their judicial duties with the utmost humility possible.
The CJN further reaffirmed the judiciary’s resolve to make decisions free from the influence of public opinion, all the while promising to protect the rule of law, the judiciary’s comprehensive independence, and the public’s trust and confidence.
No matter whose interests were implicated, he said, the law remained the law.
He tasked them with making it their mission to separate emotion from reason and presumption from reality in whatever they do as legal interpreters.
He declared that the current situation of the judiciary makes it more worthy of the public’s trust and confidence than it has ever been and that it is ready to be repositioned for efficient delivery of justice, making the nation a noteworthy destination for the upholding of the rule of law and the principles of constitutionalism.
