BAKARE OKI CAUTIONS LASTMA OFFICIALS TO BE CIVIL, SHOW EMPATHY AND SHUN CORRUPTION ON THE ROAD

Over the weekend, Mr. Bakare Oki Olalekan, the recently appointed Acting General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), issued a warning to agency staff, asking them to act civilly, show empathy, and avoid corruption in any form when performing their official duties while driving.
While discussing his new vision and objective for the agency with the Commander, Zebras, and Lastma Comptrollers at Oshodi, Mr. Oki revealed this.
According to the newly appointed acting general manager, traffic management in the state is entering a new era, as the agency will stop at nothing to guarantee that commuters enjoy a smooth and easy trip across the state.
Mr. Oki charged officials to be polite when prosecuting traffic violators, saying he would not support corruption or bribery on their part.
“The public expect a corrupt-free LASTMA that will not be collecting bribes; therefore, you should be respectful and courteous even when you are apprehending an offender”
“Motorists want LASTMA that is decent and neat; we won’t tolerate laziness and lateness of our officers to their various duty posts”
He emphasised that in order to effectively and efficiently supervise the activities of LASTMA personnel while they are on duty, the new government would reorganise the Provost/Surveillance Department.
“We would ensure a conducive working environment, provide elaborate training schemes for our officers to meet up with International standard and best practices in traffic management”
Mr. Oki cautioned the driving public, in particular commercial bus drivers, to always respect traffic restrictions as provided in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018 (as amended), while reaffirming the government’s commitment to the safety, welfare, and rights of people on duty.
The Director of Operations, Mr. Peter Gbejemede, responded on behalf of the LASTMA staff, welcoming the new acting general manager and pledging sufficient allegiance to the new administration.
