Agency Report

According to state firefighters, on Monday, a bus and truck crashed in northeastern Brazil’s Bahia state, killing at least 25 people.

A nighttime video showed the vehicle encircled by blue boxes containing mangoes that were strewn all over the place. There were numerous firefighters working at the scene.

About 155 miles (250 km) from Salvador, the state capital of Bahia, “military firefighters responded to an incident that left 25 dead.”

Images of the truck’s bent fuselage were published by Brazilian press reports, indicating that five more people were hurt in the crash on Sunday night.

The accident’s cause is still a mystery. The victims’ bodies have been turned over to the police so they can be identified.

Jacobina, a nearby city, announced three days of public mourning on Monday, and the mayor’s office is planning a “collective wake” in honour of the deaths.

In an Instagram comment, the prefecture wrote, “The prefecture expresses its sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims in this moment of unprecedented sadness and pain.”

This bus tragedy in Brazil is the most recent to result in several fatalities. Seven Corinthians supporters from Sao Paulo were murdered on a highway in the southeast of the nation in August of last year after watching their team play Cruzeiro in Belo Horizonte.

Additionally, in March 2022, a bus carrying a group of workers crashed off a highway in southern Brazil, resulting in at least 10 fatalities and twenty injuries.
