SOKOTO RE-RUN: PDP ALLEGES BALLOT SNATCHING IN POLLING UNIT
The Peoples Democratic Party has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to reject any result submitted from Maradun 011 polling unit of Tambuwal West, Sokoto State Assembly in Saturday’s rerun election.
This was revealed in a statement on Saturday night in Sokoto by PDP spokesman, Hassan Sanyinnawal.
Sanyinlawa alleged that “the polling box was taken by hoodlums to change the results identified in the unit.
“Sule Romo of the PDP, Bashir Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress and others contested in the election.
“The total registered voters were 899 with PDP leading with over 200 votes before some bigwigs of APC snatched the ballot box to an unknown destination.”
He alleged that the bigwigs resurfaced at the collation centre, an action that was contested.
The rerun elections conducted in some states on Saturday were characterized by violence, vote-buying, ballot snatching, disruption and low turnout of voters.
Numerous polling places experienced issues with the exercise, including reports of voter intimidation, ballot snatching, and thuggery, which led security personnel to making few arrests during the exercise.
However, due to a number of problems, INEC was forced to halt voting in a few polling places in the states of Kano, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and the Plateau.
