CRIME: MAN DETAINED FOR PRODUCING FAKE NAIRA NOTES IN BAUCHI
Bauchi Police Command officers detained Tahir Ahmed, 62, for producing counterfeit naira notes.
Ahmed Wakil, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this in a news release on Tuesday.
He noted, “On the 6th of August, 2024, a concerned citizen from Jos North LGA, Plateau State boarded a commercial Vectra vehicle from Sabon Garin Narabi Toro LGA, Bauchi State, en route to Bauchi.
”Upon reaching Tilden Fulani Market in Toro Local Government Area, Bauchi State, a 62-year-old man named Tahir Ahmed stopped the vehicle and joined the journey to Bauchi.
”While in transit, Ahmed allegedly transformed some papers into new one thousand naira notes through what appeared to be ritualistic chanting, giving rise to suspicion that the notes might be counterfeit.”
He maintained that when he arrived in Bauchi along Yandoka Road, a good Samaritan reported to the police station.
Wakil stated that following a series of interrogations, the suspect apparently admitted to the crime, and two hundred and thirty-eight thousand naira suspected of being counterfeit notes were confiscated from him.
The PPRO further said, ”Investigations are ongoing to uncover further details related to this incident stating that the command police commissioner, Auwal Muhammad has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, to send a request letter to the Central Bank of Nigeria for forensic analysis to determine the authenticity of the suspected currency notes.”
