RIVERS COURT BARS APC FROM HOLDING CONGRESSES
A State High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has stopped the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from holding ward and local government congresses.
Presiding Judge Justice Godwin Ollor, ruling on an ex parte motion, restrained the defendants, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Secretary Surajudeen Ajibola-Basiru, and the APC, from holding the ward, local government, and state congresses scheduled for October 11th, 16th, and 26th, 2024, respectively.
The plaintiffs in the lawsuit are Peter Ohochukwu and Hajia Ndidi-Chukwuma, while the defendants include the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigerian Police, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In his ex parte order on the motion, Justice Ollor prohibited the defendants from arranging, supervising, holding, monitoring, or otherwise conducting elections to form the Rivers State executive committee.
He also prohibited the party’s national leadership from implementing any proposal to suspend the party’s state executives led by Emeka Beke.
The matter was postponed until September 9th for a hearing on the move on notice.
This comes barely 24 hours after the fired chairman, Tony Okocha, insisted that the party will not participate in the upcoming council elections.
