
PIRATES KIDNAP 10 BOAT PASSENGERS IN RIVERS
Suspected sea pirates have kidnapped 10 people in Rivers State.
The victims were reportedly abducted on Monday morning while traveling on the Bonny-Port Harcourt waterway.
Sources reveal that the gunmen intercepted a boat en route to Port Harcourt from Bonny and took the 10 passengers captive.
Israel Waribo Pepple, the District Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Rivers State District, confirmed the incident. He stated that the kidnapping occurred along the Bonny-Port Harcourt sea route.
Pepple noted that the boat was heading to Port Harcourt when the pirates struck in the high seas.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has acknowledged the report of the kidnapping. Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer and Superintendent of Police, said that the command has assigned its Officer in Charge of Marine Operations, along with other top security officials, to investigate the situation.
Iringe-Koko assured that the Police are working diligently to ensure the safe release of the kidnapped victims and to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.
