OSIEC GIVES 48-HOUR DEADLINE TO APC, PDP, OTHER PARTIES TO CLARIFY CANDIDATES’ STATUS
The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has issued political parties a 48-hour deadline to address concerns about their candidates’ eligibility for the next local government election on February 22, 2025.
Parties such as the All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were found to have violated candidate nomination rules throughout the screening process.
Barrister Hashim Abioye, OSIEC Chairman, stated this in Osogbo, noting that a verification committee was formed to review party submissions and determine candidates’ eligibility based on factors such as age, tax compliance, and academic qualifications.
He said: “We have written to the affected political parties so as for their affected candidates to remedy whatever is remediable within the next 48 hours.”
“Some political parties, notably the APC, APM, and APP ran afoul of the provisions and procedures regarding the substitution of candidates in seven local government areas. We urge them all to do so within 48 hours.”
