Singer and songwriter 9ice, whose real name is Abolore Akande, has disclosed that his late stepmother’s lessons are the source of his native Yoruba lyrics.
In an interview with the “Curiosity made me ask” podcast, 9ice explained his extensive use of Yoruba, refuting claims that he is a skilled herbalist.
The Ogbomoso native claimed that throughout his childhood and early adulthood, he was never a herbalist.
He attributes his distinctive lyrical approach to his family’s influence and cultural background.
He claims that while writing a new song, he imparts the Yoruba language.
“I was never trained as an herbalist; I am not an herbalist. I am a Yoruba man from Oyo state, and I learnt all the proverbs from my late step mom. While trying to create songs, I decided to use all those,” he said.
