The 2024 Ibile Youth Academy would feature a complete month-long series of leadership training events, according to the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development.

The Academy’s schedule, which includes a five-day divisional training from October 28 to November 1, 2024, and a one-day leadership seminar with the governor on November 8, 2024, was announced today at the Alausa Secretariat by the Honorable Commissioner for the Ministry, Mr. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende.

According to him, there will also be a Leadership Camp from November 10–14, 2024, and on November 15, 2024, the State and Divisional Ambassadors will be unveiled at the State House Banquet Hall.

Earlier in September, the Ministry held a week-long Awareness exercise from 7th – 15th September 2024); while the Registration and Screening took place from 16th September – 18th October 2024.

“This year’s Ibile Youth Academy will be one of a kind, introducing significant changes to address gaps identified in previous editions. We have lined up diverse leadership training activities to be led by experienced facilitators from various fields, equipping
our youth with the skills needed to compete globally. Ultimately, the academy aims to produce leaders with a global outlook,” said Ogunlende.

The Permanent Secretary, Pharm. (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, backed up his assertion by highlighting how the Ibile Youth Academy supports Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, which places a high priority on youth development and empowerment.

“Over the years, we have faced leadership challenges at different levels in Nigeria. The Ibile Youth Academy was initiated to address these issues by instilling leadership, citizenship, and volunteerism values in young people. It aims to groom their leadership potential
for the benefit of Lagos State and Nigeria,” she stated.

“This year’s programme has been met with an inspiring level of enthusiasm as over 3763 applications were submitted showcasing the immense talent and ambition within the youths out of which 1228 applicants who scaled through the rigorous selection process were invited
for physical screening held across the five divisions of Lagos State”, the Permanent Secretary noted.

The top 10 athletes from each of the five divisions Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe will be chosen from a five-day intensive training session and sent to a seven-day residential camp. The State Youth Ambassador and five Divisional Ambassadors will be selected from this camp.
