NIGERIAN POLICE APPREHEND MAID FOR STEALING $60,000 IN JEWELRY
The 33-year-old Alice Udey was reportedly arrested by Nigerian police for allegedly stealing jewelry valued at over $60,000 from her employer less than twenty-four hours after she began working as a maid.
A 16-month investigation resulted in the suspect, who is accused of using multiple false identities, being arrested at the Ikoyi Police Station.
Suspect and other gangs are allegedly targeting affluent houses.
The arrest, according to Leaders, comes after a thorough 16-month investigation that showed a well-planned conspiracy involving domestic staff who enter wealthy homes under false pretenses.
Police claim that Udey vanished the day after she started working, taking priceless jewelry from her employer’s home with her.
“This appears to be a calculated operation where individuals pose as domestic staff to infiltrate homes and steal valuables,” a senior police officer said, speaking anonymously.
“We believe Ms. Udey’s actions are part of a wider syndicate operating in high-end neighbourhoods.”
Udey was recently arrested after months of monitoring and intelligence collection, according to investigators at the Ikoyi Police Station.
Nonetheless, additional people thought to be a part of the organized crime network are presently being sought by the authorities.
As they work to destroy the accused network, police are urging locals to report any similar events.
Udey is anticipated to be charged with stealing, though further charges may be brought as the investigation progresses.
