LAGOS GOVT TO DOCUMENT ALL TOURISM SITES ON WIKIMEDIA
The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture has concluded plans to document all tourism sites across the State on Wikimedia, in partnership with the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria. This initiative is part of the Ministry’s commitment to showcase Lagos’s rich cultural and historical heritage to a global audience.
To help achieve this, the Ministry has carried out a needs assessment that covers the main functions of the Ministry in all of its departments in cooperation with a specialized Wikimedia-in-Residence. The purpose of this evaluation is to guarantee that all tourist destinations and cultural resources are appropriately recorded in accordance with international standards.
The Ministry will hold a writing competition as part of the project’s next phase, encouraging participants to produce exceptional essays about Lagos’s tourist destinations. On Thursday, November 14 at 3:00 p.m., the Ministry and its partners will also organize a webinar aimed at journalists from Nigerian newspapers and publications.
The Honorable Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, said in a statement on Monday that the webinar would include a panel discussion with a distinguished group of professionals.
In order to examine the vital role that media plays in conserving cultural heritage and creating a legacy for future generations, she said that journalists from all over the country are invited to take part in the interactive session.
Therefore, the Commissioner invited Nigerian media to participate in the crucial discussion and support Lagos’s goal of showcasing its cultural assets and attractions to the globe by signing up for the webinar at https://bit.ly/4f1EZPi.
