KATSINA HOSPITAL ATTACK: BANDITS DEMAND N540M RANSOM ON ABDUCTED STAFF
Bandits have demanded a ransom of N540 million for victims abducted from a General Hospital in Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina State.
The attack on the hospital left a medical doctor and another individual with gunshot injuries.
Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire, a medical doctor, sustained gunshot wounds during the Tuesday attack when bandits stormed the hospital and kidnapped several staff members.
One of the abducted victims is Yusuf Muhammad Mairuwa, the Assistant Director of Nursing Services and head of the hospital’s nursing section.
The attackers demanded a ransom of N270 million for the nurse’s release.
In addition, the bandits requested another N270 million for the release of other hospital staff and employees of a nearby fertilizer factory who were also kidnapped during the attack.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State condemned the attack on the hospital and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting healthcare workers.
The governor noted that, while progress had been made in curbing such incidents, the attack highlighted the need for further action. He pledged to strengthen security measures, including increasing personnel at healthcare facilities across the state.
According to the Governor in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, “We are restrategising our security approach to ensure that our medical professionals can perform their vital duties without fear.
“The safety of our healthcare workers and residents remains our paramount concern.”
