Two persons have been confirmed killed in a building collapse in the Ikota area of Lekki, Ajah, Lagos State.
The two-storey building under construction collapsed on Tuesday with five workers injured and some others still trapped in the rubble.
A spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, said the injured have been taken to the hospital for treatment while the remains of the dead have been evacuated.
“So far, the bodies of an adult male and a young boy were recovered and five adult males with serious injuries have been rescued and taken to the hospital.
“Information indicates that more people are likely to still be under the rubble,” the NEMA official said in a statement.
According to Farinloye, search and rescue operations were ongoing. He said the immediate cause of the incident was unknown while further investigation would be conducted.
Also, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the sad development in a statement but said only one person was confirmed dead and four adults injured.
LASEMA boss Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu said, “The agency, alongside other stakeholders, was able to rescue the victims while the agency’s heavy-duty equipment has been dispatched.”
He also said search and rescue operations were still ongoing and further developments would be communicated.
