RAMADAN: JNI CALLS FOR UNITY, INTEGRITY AMONG CLERICS

As the Muslim community gets ready for the holy month of Ramadan, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam has stressed the importance of unity and integrity among Islamic scholars.
The President-General of JNI, Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, made this appeal during the annual pre-Ramadan meeting on Monday in Kaduna.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the meeting was centered around the theme ‘Social Media and Islamic Scholarship: Causes of Conflict among Muslim Scholars’.
The Sultan said, “We must unite as Muslims under one umbrella.
“We may have our differences, how we see things and how we understand things.”
He, however, urged that Muslims must speak and work for Islam, saying, “This is imperative in this part of the world.
“We must not allow our differences and level of understanding of Islam to divide us to the point that we insult one another,” Abubakar said.
He stated that no one holds exclusive authority over knowledge, adding that “Whatever you think or you know, somebody knows better than you.”
According to the Sultan, the scholars can help everyone have a happy and fulfilling Ramadan by following the right rules and principles.
Earlier in his speech, JNI Secretary-General Prof. Khalid Aliyu emphasized the value of responsible scholarship and the necessity for scholars to follow the right rules and ethics.
Aliyu emphasized the vital role Muslim academics play in fostering harmony and understanding among Muslims.
However, he asserted that this was only possible if the academics abstained from sectarian propaganda and personal beliefs and followed appropriate scholarly ethics.
Additionally, Aliyu advised the students to utilize social media responsibly.
He said, “With the rise of social media, it has become easier for scholars to share their teachings and connect with a wider audience.
“However, this has also led to the spread of misinformation and the promotion of divisive ideologies.”
According to Aliyu, JNI has set rules for Tafsir sessions that emphasized the importance of scholars abstaining from sectarian promotion and upholding appropriate scholarly ethics.
Additionally, he urged the professors to emphasize humility and wisdom in their lessons.
“This includes avoiding public disputes and instead focusing on promoting a positive and uplifting message.
“The importance of unity and integrity among the Muslim scholars cannot be overstated.”
According to NAN, the gathering was attended by a number of distinguished Emirs, professors, and Islamic scholars from all throughout the nation.
