BREAKING: LAGOS LAWMAKERS ARRIVE IN COURT OVER SPEAKERSHIP TUSSLE

Read Time:1 Minute, 8 Second

In order to hear a case brought by their speaker and colleague, Mudashiru Obasa, members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have assembled at the State High Court in Ikeja.

On January 13, 2025, 36 MPs removed Obasa from office on charges of egregious misconduct and misuse of power. Obasa is contesting this decision.

The parliamentarians and Princess Mojisola Meranda, who was previously chosen to succeed Obasa upon his departure from office, are the respondents in this lawsuit.

Remember how Meranda recently resigned to allow Obasa to be reinstated? “I did this out of respect for the All Progressives Congress and its leadership,” she stated.

Mr. Afolabi Fashanu (SAN) represented Obasa when the case initially appeared in court on February 20, 2025, while Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), Mr. Muiz Banire (SAN), and a group of other attorneys represented the 34 MPs.

The other House members who wanted to be included in the lawsuit were also given notice of their appearance by Mr. Olu Daramola (SAN) and Mr. Dada Awosika (SAN).

Additionally, Meranda was represented by a group of other prominent solicitors under the direction of Mr. Tayo Oyetibo (SAN).

Before postponing the hearing of remaining preliminary objections until March 7, Justice Yetunde Pinheiro issued a brief ruling in which he directed that all members of the Lagos House of Assembly be included as parties to the lawsuit.
