FASHOLA DEBUNKS ALLEGED N42 BILLION AWARD OF CONTRACT.
The Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola has debunked the alleged fraudulent award of contracts of 42 billion Naira rural Electrification Scheme in some Federal Universities.
He cleared the allegation on Thursday at a one-day investigative hearing organised by the Joint House committees on Power and Public Procurement.
He said that the provision for the Electric Power Reform Act is stipulated in Section 88(4) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria noting that he only got the award of 38.9 million naira in December at the Federal Executive Council Meeting.
Earlier the Speaker of the House of Reps Hon. Yakubu Dogara assured of the house’ commitment to execute their legislative duties towards ensuring that justice is done for the benefit of Nigerians.
The speaker who was represented by the Minority Whip, Umar Barde further urged necessary stakeholders to put all hands on deck in order to enhance the power sector.
The Chairman House Committee on Power, Hon. Daniel Asuquo however stated that the issue affecting the power sector should be taken seriously stressing on the importance to make sure that government policies are in line to tackle the yearnings of Nigerians.
The investigation carried out on the power sector also included the need to investigate the status and viability of fast power program-accelerated gas production for power generation by the Ministry.
