Senate Insists on Not Confirming Nominees From Presidency.

President of the Senate, Sen Bukola Saraki stated that the Senate might not screen nominees appointed by the president to fill vacant positions in NDDC in line with its resolution last March to suspend screening of nominees until the executive complies with its resolution to remove EFCC boss, Magu.

Saraki, who was ruling on a point of order by Sen Mao Ohuabunwa on Thursday at the plenary session through a letter from the presidency disclosing that some nominees for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) were forwarded for screening.

He noted that the Senate’s resolution to withhold further screening was still in force. 

Saraki however directed that the secretariat should check to see if the nomination came before the senate took its position on confirmation.

National Assembly correspondent Folashade Abdulsalami reports that Sen Ohunabunwa had raised the motion citing Order 43 to draw the attention of the Senate to the need to clear the NDDC nominees.

Senate however directed that its committee on Niger Delta should begin the consideration of the 2017 Budget of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC following the request from president Muhammadu Buhari who wrote the senate seeking the expeditious consideration and passage ‎of the budget.

The Senate further mandated that the committee report back in two weeks‎.
