Chikatara cancels Wydad Casablanca contract, set for Saudi move
Nigeria forward Chisom Chikatara is reportedly set for a lucrative
move to Arab Saudi after canceling his contract with African champions
Wydad Casablanca.
The former Abia Warriors hitman was pictured in the early hours on
Tuesday at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, as he departed
the country to Morocco after cutting short his holiday to finalise his
departure from Wydad ahead of his move to Saudi Arabia.
Chikatara had endured a difficult time at the African champions since
his switch from Nigeria Professional Football League club Abia
Warriors in 2016.
The 23-year-old had been hampered by a combination of injuries and
change of management at the Casablanca club which limited him to a
handful of appearances, but he remains a fan favourite with Wydad fans
who have voted him man of the man in most of his rare appearances.
According to a source close to Chikatara, Wydad Casablanca are are
allegedly owing the Super Eagles striker five months salary and have
been underpaying his salaries by as much $2,000 a month, which
informed his decision to cancel the contract.
The Umuahia-born forward is also a subject of interests from a host of
clubs from Egypt, Qatar and Europe. But barring any last-minute twist,
he is on the verge of a money-spinning switch to Saudi Arabia giants,
Arab Saudi.
Chikatara came into limelight after after scoring four goals for
Nigeria’s home-based team at the 2016 African Nations Championship in
Rwanda.
