Reports say Manchester United winger, Alexis Sanchez may face eight weeks on the sidelines with knee ligament damage.

The Chile national team doctor, Pedro Onate revealed that the striker suffered “medial ligament distension” in his right knee after he was forced off in the second half of Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

An eight-week timeframe would see him return for the final two games of the Premier League season against Huddersfield and Cardiff as well as a possible FA Cup final date, should United progress in the competition.

“We communicated with Sánchez, he has had his scans and that’s the injury – there will be no problems for him to play in the Copa America [this summer] because it will be six to eight weeks without playing,” Oñate told the El Mercurio newspaper in Chile.

“The medial ligament is a troublesome injury but not so complex.”

Sanchez has struggled to make an impact since joining United from Arsenal in January 2018 and his future at the club is uncertain amid rumours that he could leave Old Trafford in the summer.
