The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is ready to commence mass metering of electricity consumers nationwide by May 1.
The General Manager of the commission’s Public Affairs Unit, Dr. Usman Arabi, in a statement, said the exercise would be implemented under the Meter Asset Providers (MAP) programme of the Federal Government.
“The commission issued permits to MAPs on April 5 in accordance with Section 4(3) of the MAP Regulations 2018 to MAPs that were successful in the procurement.
“The procurement was conducted by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company Plc. (AEDC) and the Jos Electricity Distribution Company Plc. (JEDC).”
Arabi said customers should expect metres to be installed in their premises within 10 working days of making payment to the MAPs.
He added that the payment and installation of the facilities within the time frame was in accordance with Section 18 (3) of the MAP Regulations 2018.”
