JUST IN: SENATE SENDS DELEGATES TO LONDON IN RESPONSE TO ARREST OF EKWEREMADU
After Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the former vice president of the Senate, and his wife Beatrice were detained in connection with an alleged organ harvest against the Ekweremadus, the Senate announced that a high-powered delegation would travel to the United Kingdom.
The delegation of the Upper Chamber will be made up of members of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, led by Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa of Bauchi North, according to Senator Ahmad Lawan, who was speaking on Wednesday shortly after a closed-door session of the Senate. He instructed the members to get briefings on the situation from the Nigeria High Commission in London.
Lawan said that he had a robust conversation with the Nigerian High Commissioner, Ambassador Ishola Sarafa, about the alleged organ harvesting. He added that as senators, they would continue to support their colleagues. Lawan noted that the Senate would keep in contact with the Nigeria High Commission regarding the matter involving Ekweremadu.
A motion regarding the arrest of the former Deputy Senate President and his wife in London last week on suspicion of conspiring to harvest organs was followed by resolutions from the Senate.
