5 CONFIRMED DEAD, OTHERS INJURED IN LAGOS-IBADAN EXPRESSWAY ACCIDENT

A Toyota Hiace bus that was traveling near Tabiorah Church in Ogere on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway suddenly caught fire while in motion, leaving five people dead and nine others with various degrees of injuries.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun’s Sector Commander, Mr. Ahmed Umar, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
According to Umar, the accident involving the bus with the license plate KAA 601 XA happened at 8.38 in the morning.
The sole mishap, according to the sector commander, was caused by a mechanical flaw that allowed a fire to start while the vehicle was still moving.
“A total of 14 people were involved comprising seven male adult, four female adult, one boy and two girls.
“A total of nine people were injured comprising five men, three women and one boy.
“Five persons were recorded death from the accident comprising of two men, one woman and two girls,” he said .
According to the FRSC chairman, the deceased were placed at the FOS Morgue in Ipara while the injured were transported to Victory Hospital in Ogere for medical care.
The area commander expressed his sincere sorrow over the situation and advised drivers to always maintain their vehicles before leaving on any journey.
