PSG PART WAYS WITH POCHETTINO, SET TO APPOINT GALTIER AS REPLACEMENT
Mauricio Pochettino has left his position as Paris Saint-Germain manager with Nice boss Christophe Galtier set to replace him.
The former Tottenham and Southampton manager left the club despite leading PSG to the French title with a 15-point winning margin – the largest margin of a title-winning team in the top five leagues.
But in the end, it was PSG’s most recent loss in the Champions League—the title the Qatari owners so much want—that cost him his job.
PSG were 2-0 up on aggregate with only 45 minutes left to play in their last-16 tie against Real Madrid. But were undone by a 17-minute second-half hat-trick from Karim Benzema.
Pochettino guided PSG to the semi-finals the season before, becoming only the second manager in the club’s history to do so under the current ownership, but they were eliminated by Manchester City.
Galtier, 55, led Lille to the Ligue 1 title in 2020–21 before moving on to Nice, who finished fifth in the French top division last season under his leadership.
