UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN (UI) PROMISES STUDENTS WITH MARKS BELOW 200 ADMISSION

The University of Ibadan has stated that it will admit students who received less than 200 points in the recently completed Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
Prof. Emmanuel Omobowale, Director of the UI Distance Learning Centre, stated this on Tuesday at a news conference held at the university in Ibadan.
Omobowale stated that students with poor UTME scores and those who did not take the UTME may be admitted to the university through its Open Distance e-Learning programme, adding that possibilities to obtain the same degrees as others were now accessible.
According to the Director, “prospective students would need to register with JAMB and sit an examination for the school, after which they would be issued the same certificates as the university and mobilised for the National Youth Service Corps like their colleagues who were admitted to the university’s regular programmes.”
He stated that the only condition they must meet is to pass relevant courses at the O’Level, and that the UIODeL was created to provide possibilities to thousands of eligible students who are denied entrance to universities each year due to a lack of space.
Omobowale also stressed that “the university could admit 100,000 students and even more through the programme, which he said would not be affected by frequent strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
According to him, the special window of admission into UI, which he characterized as an innovative approach of expanding the number of students who get admission under the leadership of UI Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, will address the issue of universities with low carrying capacity.
He did, however, point out that the entrance requirement is the same as in the traditional manner and as stated on the university’s website.
