PASTOR SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR USING 7-YEAR-OLD BOY FOR RITUAL
By Sumayyah Olapade
An Ikeja Special Offences Court on Tuesday sentenced one Pastor Erinmole Adetokunbo and one Adedoyin Oyekanmi to death for killing a seven-year-old boy for ritual purposes.
On Monday, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo sentenced the duo who changed their plea from not guilty to guilty.
They were charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
The convicts committed the crimes on June 7, 2017, at no. 6, Oke Oniburokun St., Odokekere, Ikorodu, Lagos, according to the Lagos State government.
According to the government, the pair severed the child’s head and buried it on a ‘church’ altar before throwing the child’s body into a canal.
The judge ruled that the case was pitiful, claiming that the two conspired to murder the child.
“The defendants committed a heinous crime and are unworthy of mercy.”
“They killed a seven-year-old boy cruelly and deliberately.” This robbed him and his family of a bright future.
“Section 222 of the Lagos State Criminal Law imposes the death penalty for premeditated murder, and I have no hesitation in imposing the same punishment.”
“I hereby execute Adedoyin Oyekanmi and Erinwole Adetokunbo for the murder of Kazeem Rafiu.”
“May God have mercy on your souls,” she said.
