Today, Janet Jackson gave birth to her first child—a baby boy named Eissa. Jackson first hinted that she and husband Wissam Al Mana were expecting via social media and cancelled her Unbreakable world tour, citing her need to “rest up—doctor’s orders” on Twitter. This is perhaps unsurprising, as Jackson would be 50 years old when she delivered her bundle of joy.
What was more surprising, perhaps, is that Jackson remained out of the spotlight throughout her pregnancy, with few details or images of the pop icon emerging. Some attribute this more private turn to her 2012 marriage to Qatari businessman Al Mana.
No doubt, some of her songs from Unbreakable will resonate in a different way now that the star is a new mother (“No Sleep,” anyone?)
