Man allegedly murdered days to wedding by vigilante
A man, Ndubuisi Oye, has been allegedly murdered by a vigilante in Ogbunike community, in the Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Oye was reported to be preparing for his wedding ceremony on Sunday.
Belongings worth thousands of naira were set ablaze in the area after the unfortunate incident which occured on Monday.
The vigilante, Levi Elobis, known as commander, killed Oye on St. Monica’s Road, Ogbunike, Daily post reported.
Oye’s fiancée, Miss Oluma Agbugba, bitterly said, “We were coming back from a committee of friends’ meeting in preparation for our wedding on Sunday.
“When we got to St. Monica’s Road, my fiancé alighted to refill his commercial bus and as we were about driving off, a Toyota Hillux vehicle blocked our path and the man who emerged from the vehicle ordered both of us to come down from the bus.
“I alighted and saw that the man had a gun. The man ordered my fiancé (Oye) to come down from the bus and he shot him at a close range. He thereafter drove off, leaving him in a pool of blood.
“Some passersby stopped to assist me to move him to Iyienu Hospital. He died on the way to the hospital.”
27-year-old Oye, was an indigene Ezza, Ebonyi State, while his fiancee is from Imo State.
Some Ebonyi indigenes living in the deceased area, on hearing about the incident, went on the rampage and set the residence of the commander and his three cars on fire.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation, Mr Junior Onwutaka, said he attempted without succes to stop the mob, but he was overcome by the crowd.
Confirming the occurrence, the Anambra State Police Commissioner, Garba Umar, said the suspect (commander) had been arrested.
