Julen Lopetegui’s Spain squad for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup has brought a few unexpected exclusions while Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal is the surprise inclusion.

The 2010 World Cup winners are known for boasting incredible depth for their national team and surprise omissions would always take place for the final 23-man squad.
Chelsea duo Alvaro Morata and Marcos Alonso are the most notable absentees, with the latter enjoining an incredible season in the Premier League – winning a place in the PFA Team of the Year.
However, Arsenal’s Monreal and Jordi Alba were the preferred choices for the left-back role.

There’s also no space for experienced Premier League trio Juan Mata, Cesc Fabregas, Pedro, while Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez also misses out.
Spain final 23-man squad:
Goalkeepers: David De Gea, Pepe Reina and Kepa.
Defenders: Dani Carvajal, Odriozola, Gerard Piqué, Sergio Ramos, Nacho, Azpilicueta, Jordi Alba and Nacho Monreal.
Midfielders: Sergi Busquets, Saúl, Koke, Thiago, Iniesta, David Silva.
Forwards: Isco, Marco Asensio, Lucas Vázquez, Iago Aspas, Rodrigo and Diego Costa.
