WHAT IS YOUR DRESS SENSE
IFE ADEWOLE
Fashion implies different things to different persons, to some its putting on trendy clothes, shoes, hairstyle, makeup and other accessories. For others they according to the popular saying, “dress the way you want to be addressed”.
Fashion goes beyond what you put on, it is a unique way of dressing which is not necessarily putting on of trending styles, but the right combination of colours and other accessories that reflect your personality.
Some individuals see fashion as a trademark, like Wole Soyinka who vows not to cut his hair low till things begins to go well with Nigeria, Denrele Edun believes that having a crazy look that is different from any other person his fashion, Kunle Afolayan sees fashion in his ‘kẹmbẹ’ trouser. Most important thing about fashion is one’s ability to look good and comfortable at every point in time.
Fashion comes in phases, it works with time and trends, this connotes that a fashion can be in vogue while another can be outdated. There was a time when boot cut trouser was trending, it was not long before it became outdated, after that we had pencil trouser. There was a period when natural beauty was the only thing you can admire in a woman, but the advents of make-up swept that away.
Moreso, fashion can be said to be a pointer to one’s personality, this can be done by merely looking at the person and judge is dress sense to determine how fashionable the person is.
The fact remains that, for every occasion and season there is a different fashion style for it ranging from the clothes we wear, to the shoes and the accessories combined with them. For an occasion like burial, wedding, birthday, housewarming, Nigeria native attire with gele or cap combine with other accessories will do well, but will look absurd to wear same native dress an interview as a Shirt and pant trouser will be nice for a guy and a shirt with skirt or trouser will be nice for a lady.
An interesting thing about fashion is that, it creates room for creativity, there are no limits to what can be done in the name of fashion as rules can be broken, colours can be blocked, styles can be serious or playful.
