The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) yesterday insisted there was no casualty in the fire incident which happened at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri on Monday.
The General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, described the video as “false and malicious”, in a statement made available to journalist.
Yakubu said, the fire incident affected parts of the arrival and departure sections of the aircraft, but it was promptly put out by the Aerodrome and Fire-Fighting Department of FAAN.
She said, “The authority will like to state unequivocally that there was no casualty, as the fire was swiftly curtailed by officers of our Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services.”
The fire was said to have been caused by an electric spark, the authority said it had launched a probe into the inferno.
However, she dismissed the trending online video indicating that people got injured in the incident and advised those spreading this falsehood to desist from such acts in their own interest.
