LESSONS TO LEARN FROM SUPER EAGLES’ 2-2 DRAW AGAINST SHEVCHENKO’S UKRAINE

Nigeria’s Super Eagles threw away a 2-nil lead against Ukraine to settle for a 2-2 final score in the international friendly played on Tuesday at the Dnipro Arena.
New boy, Aribo put Nigeria ahead in the first half and Victor Osimhen’s spot-kick after Samuel Kalu was brought down in the 18-yard box, ensured the first stanza of the game ended with 2-0 in favour of the Super Eagles.
Nigeria, however, threw away their 2-nil lead after 2 quick late goals from the Ukrainian team.
In this report, Hotjist takes a look at some of the lessons we learn from the Gernot Rohr sides:
1, Strong Attack. There is obviously a positive vibe in the attacking line-up Nigeria can begin to boast of a bright, sharp, strong set of forward players. With likes of Samuel Chukwueze, Samuel Kalu, Victor Osimhen, Iwobi, who started the game, and the likes of Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Onuachu as substitutes, Nigeria have a stronger chance of building on it’s attacking strength if only they can add vision, technicality, and ‘selflessness’ their qualities.
2, Strong competition in the goalkeeping department will breed better performance. Francis Uzuoho gave an impressive performance, with a couple of goal-bound saves. This may not be unconnected to the mentality of positioning as the best option out of the four options the team has in that department, with the addition of newbie, Okoye.
3, Joe Aribo looks like a better 10 as he connected more with the frontliners and scoring the opener himself. The debutant won the Nigerian fans’ hearts with his first game in the Super Eagles shirt. It must also be said that Stoke City’s man, Etebo’s sitting deep provided him more with confidence.
4, Iwobi! Iwobi!! No doubt, the former arsenal player is a bundle of talent, he only needs either to be pushed ir push himself. he was also able to provide a couple of accurate passes with an assist that led to the first goal for the eagles, although he missed a clear-cut chance.
5, We have our own Robben in Samuel Chukwueze but, he should ‘borrow himself brain’ and stop being selfish. The attack players need to play more as a single unit, this way they pose a threat against any team in the world.
