TWO IMPERSONATORS CONVICTED BY EFCC IN OYO

On a separate modified allegation bordering on criminal impersonation, an Oyo State High Court found Timothy Oluwaseun Oni and Abdulwahab Oladimeji Muhammed guilty.
The defendants were found guilty by a court presided over by Justice Bayo Taiwo after they pled guilty to the charges brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Ibadan Zonal Command.
Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.
After analyzing the facts of the cases and the prosecution’s evidence, Justice Taiwo found that the prosecution had proven the charges and sentenced the offenders to six months of community service apiece.
In addition to the prison sentences, the judge ordered Oni to repay his victim $2,000 USD and lose one 2011 Mercedes Benz automobile, one iPhone 12 Pro Max mobile phone, a Samsung Galaxy S8 phone, and one Apple iPad.
Abdulwahab was also ordered to pay restitution of N311, 573.00 (Three Hundred and Eleven Thousand, Five Hundred and Seventy Three Naira) found in his Kuda Microfinance Bank Account.
In a related event, on Monday, May 23, 2022, Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel of the Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, convicted and sentenced one Emmanuel Ifeanyi Odinaka to six months in jail on a charge of online fraud.
“That you, Emmanuel Ifeanyi Odinaka (a.k.a. Mary Cathy) impersonated one Mary Cathy, the pretext you knew to be false and thus committed an offence contrary to Section 22 (2) (b) I and punishable under Section 22 (2) (b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015, sometime in 2021, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to gain advantage for yourself did impersonate
At his arraignment, he pleaded “guilty” to the charge.
After that, Justice Ayo-Emmanuel found Ifeanyi guilty and sentenced him to six months in prison.
In addition, the convict was sentenced to return $250 USD (Two Hundred and Fifty United States Dollars) to the Federal Government of Nigeria, as well as forfeit one iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone.
