
NEWS: GBAJABIAMILA GETS SIXTH TERM BID UNOPPOSED
Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, won the APC ticket for Surulere Constituency unchallenged on Friday.
According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), the primary election took place on Friday at Akerele Primary Health Centre in Surulere, with police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Department of State Services providing tight security.
Personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps were also on the scene.
At 3:08 p.m., delegates were accredited for the election.
The 30 ad-hoc delegates from the constituency’s nine wards were accredited and voted.
Mr. Afeez Odunawo, the speaker’s agent, watched the primary election, which ended at 3.13 p.m.
The counting of votes began soon after the polls closed.
The result was given by Mr. Ganiyu Adeyinka, a representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission, who proclaimed Gbajabiamila the winner.
According to Adeyinka, the speaker received all 30 votes as the single candidate for the ticket.
Gbajabiamila has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2003, according to NAN.
In the seventh National Assembly, he was the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.
He was elected Speaker with 283 votes out of 361 in the ninth National Assembly.
According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), the ruling party is holding primaries for the House of Assembly and House of Representatives in all 40 Lagos State seats and 24 federal constituencies. (NAN)
