Mr. Desmond Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has been re-elected to a third term on the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket.

The primary election was held on Friday at Akerele Primary Health Centre in Surulere, with police and other agencies providing strict security.

Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission were also present during the primary poll (INEC).

According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), election officers for Surulere Constituency I arrived at 1.55 p.m., and accreditation began at 2.11 p.m.

At 2.45 p.m., thirty ad-hoc delegates from the constituency’s nine wards began voting.

The votes were counted at 2:49 p.m.

Mr. Demola Omotosho, the returning officer, pronounced Elliot the winner at 3 p.m. by announcing the results.

According to Elliot he received 30 votes as the single candidate for the ticket.

During the poll, Amb. Paul Oyiborume, the supervising officer from the APC Headquarters in Abuja, was on the ground.

In his acceptance speech, Elliot thanked God for his success.

“I’m ecstatic and overjoyed.”

“The people should expect more democratic benefits.”

“This is only a party ticket; there will be no general election.”

“There is still a lot of work to be done, and we are ready to get started,” he said.

According to NAN, Elliot ran for and won the Surulere Constituency 1 seat in the 2015 general elections.

His candidacy by the APC for a second term, as well as the third, was unopposed.

Members of the APC, their families, and friends flocked to the primaries to congratulate the APC candidate.

The APC is holding primaries for the House of Assembly and House of Representatives in all 40 Lagos State seats and 24 federal constituencies.
