APC PRIMARIES: LET THE PEOPLE DETERMINE WHO WILL BE THEIR PRESIDENT – PRO-TINUBU GROUP APPEALS

A few hours before the ruling All Progressives Congress’s presidential election, a group of women supporters of one of the aspirants, Bola Tinubu, have appealed to the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, to ensure transparency and allow party delegates to choose a candidate of their choice without fear of intimidation at the upcoming primary.

Under the banner of Ondo State Women for Tinubu, the group also urged all APC delegates to vote for the person of their choice as the party’s presidential candidate without fear of persecution.

Mrs. Bola Ige, the group’s leader, stated in a Friday statement that while the constitution allows for a consensus candidate, it must be true consensus, with all aspirants signing a written document indicating their agreement.

The group claims that there is a need to promote openness and allow party members to vote for their preferred candidate in the primary.

While rejecting what it called an attempt by some quarters to pressure delegates to vote for a specific candidate, the group asked party leaders to refrain from doing so and provide all candidates a level playing field.

“In the spirit of justice, equity, and fairness, our great party should enable all presidential candidates to run in the primary,” Ige stated. Allow the people to choose their own president.

Plans to force people to back a fictitious candidate will undoubtedly breed hostility and discord inside (the) APC, jeopardizing the party’s chances in the general election. “

She also warned against any selection process that amounted to or resembled an imposition, describing such an act as a deliberate attempt to sow discontent, crisis, and divisiveness in the party and Nigeria in general.
