NPFL UPDATE: DAKKADA DREAMS OF SAFETY AFTER 3-1 WIN OVER RIVALS AKWA UNITED

Dakkada brightened their hopes of beating the drop zone after claiming bragging rights in the Ibom Derby with a 3-1 over city rivals, Akwa United, in a MatchDay 34 fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Akwa United started the game better and as early as in the 4th minute got a sight at goal after former Dakkada player Isaac George, got a pass from teammate Adams Yakubu, close to Dakkada box. But he failed to score from that close range.
It was Dakkada turn to come close to getting the lead three minutes after The 7th when Captain Aniekan Ekpe, dribbled his way close to the opponents box, but his shot at goal was denied by the woodwork.
From that moment, the game didn’t really have any clear cut chance for both teams, and in the 28th minute, Akwa United Coach Deji Ayeni was forced to make a substitution as injured Elisha young was replaced by Hamzat Mubarak.
In the 35th minute, Akwa Utd’s Leo Ezikiel, felt he had scored, but the referee ruled the effort as offside.
The deadlock was however broken in the 39th minute, after the impressive Adams Yakubu made a run down the flank. and connected with James Arong, who In-turn found Samuel Amadi to score the game opener.
Akwa United’s lead didn’t last long as in the 42nd minute, Dakkada got their equalizer through Etido Dan off an assist by Friday Bright, as the game went into half time 1-1.
The second half started with Dakkada looking for their second goal in the 48th minute when Edidiong Ezikiel glided past two Akwa United players, but his last touch of the ball inside the box was defended well by Christopher Nweze.
Dakkada would score their second goal in the 54th minute, after Akwa United failed to clear their line, and Aniekan Ekpe scored with the assist from Edidiong Ezikiel.
The 55th minute, saw Dakkada make their first substitution as Micheal Bolaji was taken off for Adewale Lasisi, while Muritala Lawal replaced Friday Bright. There would be more subs in the 62nd minute with Israel Emmanuel and Israel Sunday introduced for Etido Dan and David Eneobong.
Akwa United needed more fire power to salvage the game and coach Ayeni had to withdraw Samuel Amadi, Isaac George and Adams Yakubu for Akandurut Orok, Babatunde Bello and Frankilin Matib.
Dakkada then sealed off the game with their third goal of the game in the 87th minute after Israel Emmanuel’s pass found Edidiong Ezikiel and the striker finished off perfectly for Dakkada to hold on till the final whistle was blown by the referee.
