The tank commander, Lt. Col. Yegor Meleshenko, was killed, making him the 58th Russian officer to die in the country’s ongoing conflict with neighboring Ukraine.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces continue to sustain significant losses, Meleshenko was murdered in the Donbas region.

According to a Daily Mail article, Meleshenko, a commander of a tank unit, was 43 years old on Tuesday.

In the midst of fierce combat in Ukraine, the newspaper stated: “Putin has lost yet another senior military officer as his forces suffer a string of humiliating reverses.”

Yegor Meleshenko, a lieutenant colonel, was 43 when he died in combat in the Donbas region.

Meleshenko, the commander of a tank battalion, is the 58th colonel to die since Putin sent his soldiers across the border on February 24.

The manner of Meleshenko’s passing is unknown, but it serves as a reminder of the awful losses of senior leaders Russia has endured.

At least 11 Russian generals have also died in the conflict, which has now lasted for more than four months. However, the actual death toll may be greater given the propensity of Russian officials to hide their death tolls.

According to analysts, Putin appears unconcerned with the number of his losses, which are now estimated to be well over 30,000, as he pushes for a new land grab in the Ukrainian area of Donetsk.
