EKWEREMADU: UK COURT RULES THAT DAVID UKPO IS AN ADULT

A UK court has declared David Ukpo, a rumored kidney donor for the daughter of Ike and Beatrice Ekweremadu, to be of legal age.
A trial for Ekweremadu, a former senate deputy president, and his wife Beatrice was held on Thursday at the Westminster magistrate’s court.
The court decided that Ukpo was actually 21 years old and not the alleged 15 years old.
Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice were detained by UK police in late June on suspicion of conspiring to traffic a kid for the purpose of harvesting organs.
Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu and Ike Ekweremadu, who are 55 and 60 years old, respectively, were remanded in jail to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police.
After the attorney for Ekweremadus argued on the subject throughout the proceeding, the court decided that Ukpo is not a minor.
Ukpo was categorically a minor, as the prosecutor had claimed.
Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice filed a lawsuit against the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and others to obtain access to the donor David Ukpo’s certified true copy (CTC) of his biodata.
Last Thursday, the Federal High Court in Abuja accepted their motion.
The defense attorneys for the defendants also notified the court that they wanted to apply for bail during the first week of August.
In the meantime, the UK attorney general has given his approval for the case to be heard at London’s Central Criminal Court.
The head of the Senate’s foreign affairs committee, Adamu Bulkachuwa, led the delegation to the court.
Former senate president David Mark, former minister of state for education Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, and a group from the Nigerian high commission were also present in court.
The senator for Enugu West and his wife are accused of conspiring to set up or aid another person’s travel with the intention of exploitation, specifically organ harvesting.
The judge then postponed the matter until August 4.
