The trial of Chidinma Ojukwu, an alleged killer of Super TV boss, Usifo Ataga, couldn’t continue today (Thursday), at the High court in Tafawa Balewa Square, due to the absence of her lawyer.

Ms. Ojukwu is on trial with her sister, Chioma Egbuchu, and a man named Adedapo Quadri for the alleged murder, theft, and forgery before Justice Yetunde Adesanya.

Onwuka Egwu requested a vacation for July 7 since he was stuck in Anambra due to a travel delay and informed the court of his absence.

However, the first and second defendants’ attorneys said they were unaware of the absence of their colleague.

The state’s attorney, Adenike Oluwafemi, expressed their disappointment in Mr. Egwu’s inability to call them in front of the court.

They have a witness in court, she continued.

However, a different attorney, C.J. Jiakeponna, announced the third defendant, Ms. Egbuchu’s, presence.

The second defendant’s attorney, Babatunde Busari, said that Ms. Egbuchu’s former counsel had asked for a postponement during the last sitting, claiming he needed more time to gather the evidence for his defense. This, he claimed, had delayed the proceedings.

He also mentioned that the third defendant now has a new attorney and that there may be another delay.

The judge, Yetunde Adesanya, issued a warning, saying that future cases won’t repeat themselves because lawyers won’t be permitted to invent justifications for delaying the proceedings.

The case was adjourned to October 4th and 5th, 2022 for continuation of trial.
