The wife of Abia State Governor, Dr Nkechi Ikpeazu says, she is upscaling her involvement in the fight against substance abuse through advocacy, sensitisation as well as interventions to promote care and recovery for those who have been exposed to misuse.

Dr. Ikpeazu, stated this when she visited the state office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Aba, she made this statement and mentioned that her foundation, the Vicar Hope Foundation, would launch a number of initiatives to aid the NDLEA in enlightening the public.

The wife of the Governor, who was emotionally disturbed at the sight of some promising youths, mostly graduates who were at the rehabilitation centre, strongly condemned the use of drugs.

She listed a number of consequences of drug misuse, including early death, mental illness, expulsion from school, and a higher risk of crime and violence among abusers.

The First Lady warned the youths against consuming, selling, and abusing drugs and emphasized the need for parents, community leaders, non-governmental organizations, religious bodies, the government, and other relevant stakeholders to work together in the state’s and the nation’s overall campaign against drug abuse.

Ikpeazu commenced the agency’s unwavering fight against drug abuse in the nation and their efforts at rehabilitating drug abuse victims while he prayed for the complete rehabilitation of the clients at the NDLEA rehabilitation facility. Ikpeazu also pledged to look into the challenges raised by the clients in the rehabilitation center.

He listed some of the difficulties the organization encountered, such as facility rehabilitation that affects the capacity of the center for admissions.

The Federal University of Technology Owerri graduate Chukwuemeka (surname withheld), who spoke on behalf of his fellow interns, expressed their feelings through an emotional poem that described how drugs initially appeared to be so beautiful and alluring but eventually led them into a very deplorable state.

He expressed regret for their drug usage and promised to turn a new page after receiving recovery. He claimed that substance misuse and dependency had hampered the social and academic growth of many of his fellow interns on the rehabilitation program.

He took the chance to express his gratitude to the governor’s wife for her love and care for them and made a request that she help them develop their abilities and find profitable employment.

David Anyanwu, the governor of Abia State’s special adviser on drugs, praised Dr. Ikpeazu for her five-year commitment to the fight against drug misuse through her NGO.

He expressed his appreciation for the Governor’s wife’s declaration that she intended to step up her efforts to battle substance misuse via advocacy, sensitization, and other forms of interventions in the upcoming weeks.
