Stephen Fagbemi, bishop of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Owo Diocese, has urged the Federal Government to solve security challenges and other issues endangering the country’s existence before the 2023 general elections.

The cleric cautioned that failure to fix the issues would be disastrous for the country.

Fagbemi issued the warning while reading the Bishop’s Charge during the 14th Synod of the Diocese of Owo Anglican Communion, which was held at St. Paul’s Church, Ifon, the headquarters of the Ose Local Government. The subject of the synod was “Chosen to Proclaim.”

According to him, Nigeria has found itself in a most deplorable position, to the point that some are suggesting that it is on the verge of becoming a failed state as a result of the government’s incapacity to solve the country’s problems.

He urged churches and individuals to begin a self-defense mechanism in the face of the country’s current security threat, warning that if the government does not take immediate action, the country will explode.

“What we learned from people who were released from kidnappers’ dens is that a specific ethnic group in this country is responsible, and they have a plot to take over the entire country,” he claimed.

We’ve heard this line of argument before. A reasonable government should have researched this by now and developed a clear strategy to combat this trend.

Concerning the next general elections, the cleric stated that Nigerians require leaders who have the capacity and courage to lead the country out of its morass.

He also stated that peace, progress, and justice will continue to elude the country until the country recognizes the rights of every Nigerian to practice the faith of their choosing without fear of intimidation or prejudice.

“To proceed with the 2023 elections without clarifying these and many other concerns that endanger our collective survival is to postpone the dreadful day.” “I implore all civic, religious, and political leaders in this country to set aside their selfish interests and address these pressing national challenges,” he charged.
