Sunday Ihende, a homicide police officer and the seventh witness in the murder trial against Andrew Nice Ominikoron, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver, who was alleged to have raped and murdered Oluwbamise Ayanwola, a 22-year-old fashion designer, has mentioned that the police conducted forensic test on the bus.

At the resumed hearing on Monday, while giving his testimony before Justice Sherifat Sonaike of the Lagos High Court sitting in Tafawa Balewa Square, he stated that some forensic experts went with him to the bus and scene of the incident for further investigation of which the result was not yet out for certainty.

The police officer while he was under cross-examination by the defence counsel, Mr Abayomi Omotubora, also added that, the bus driver had ulterior motives that was why he didn’t pick and drop the passengers at the normal BRT designated bus-stops.

“In my earlier statement, I mentioned that the accused person did not adhere to the rules and regulations of the company, that’s why he picked a passenger at Chevron which is not a designated bus-stop.”

“I’m very sure that he did not pick and drop off the other passengers from the designated bus-stops because he didn’t want to remit the money to the government.”

“I have tried to get more information from people but you know how difficult it is to extract information from the members of the public, not everybody wants to talk to the police”.

Asked if during the course of investigation if he found out whether the victim paid any fare for boarding the vehicle, the prosecution witness said that the person who would have answered that was unfortunately late.

When asked if he knew that the BRT had rules he said, ā€œI donā€™t know that fact because I donā€™t work in the BRT. For the BRT driver to have picked the victim, it means that he had his one peculiar reason.

ā€œWe all know that late Bamise boarded that bus on February 26, 2022 and the accused person was the driver.ā€

Omotubora further questioned him on whether he analysed the BRT machine to ascertain the time the deceased boarded the bus.

He said,ā€The accused person said he picked her at about 7:00p.m, so he cannot be lying.ā€

When the matter came up the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Moyosore Onigbanjo SAN, announced his appearance leading the Director of Public Prosecution Dr. Babajide Martins for prosecution.

Ominnikoron is facing a five-count charge bordering on rape, conspiracy, felony, sexual assault, and murder preferred against him by the Lagos State government.
