UPDATE: SIX INJURED, 10 DEAD IN LAGOS-IBADAN EXPRESSWAY ACCIDENT
Agency Report
Ten people were killed and six others were injured in an accident involving a commercial bus on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday.
This was confirmed in an interview with Joshua Adekanye, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Oyo State.
A commercial bus with license plate; TRK 135 ZY and a hit-and-run truck carrying a container were both involved in the accident that occurred about 6.30 am on Tuesday in the Guru Mahajji region, according to Adekanye.
He claimed that while travelling overnight from Malumfashi, Kastiina State, the commercial bus struck a truck towing a container that was travelling the wrong way.
Adekanye claimed that the bus struck the container (attached to the truck) and crashed into a ditch as it tried to dodge the truck, killing 10 people and injuring six others. The truck then fled the scene.
Adekanye said that the bus, in order to avoid the truck, hit the container and fell into a ditch resulting in the death of 10 persons and six others injured, while the truck sped away.
He stated that there were a total of 18 passengers were involved in the collision which included one male toddler and 17 male adults.
According to the sector commander, the deceased were transported to the morgue at Adeoyo Hospital, while the injured were transferred to Ibadan Central Hospital for medical assistance.
He claimed that the police division at the Ibadan tollgate area had control of the wrecked bus.
The sector commander urged drivers to avoid driving at night and against traffic at all costs, claiming that the accident might not have occurred if the bus had not been travelling overnight from Kastiina State
