Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has resigned his membership of the 10th House to resume his new role in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

According to reports, Gbajabiamila submitted his letter of resignation on the floor of the house on Wednesday and it was read by the new speaker, Tajudeen Abbas.

Gbajabiamila is expected to commence his new role as President Bola Tinubu’s chief of staff today (Wednesday), following his resignation.

Recall that the former Speaker had been inaugurated alongside his colleagues on Tuesday.

Representing Surulere I constituency of Lagos State, Gbajabiamila was elected into the house of representatives in 2003 and re-elected in 2007, before emerging minority leader in the 7th Assembly.

He rose to the role of majority leader for the ruling party in the 8th Assembly and was later elected Speaker of the just-concluded 9th House.

Following Gbajabiamila’s resignation from his position as a member of the House, a new election will be held in his constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fill the position.
