Business magnate, Obinna Iyiegbu, widely recognized as Obi Cubana, has turned to social media to commemorate Ekuma Jeremiah, the Lagos street vendor who captured the public’s affection in 2022, upon obtaining a law degree from Ebonyi State University.

Mr. Ekuma first rose to prominence in January 2022 when a viral video depicted him generously distributing funds to detainees within a Nigerian Correctional Service vehicle in Ajah, Lagos. This heartfelt gesture garnered nationwide acclaim and even attracted the interest of Obi Cubana.

As noted by Cubana, following their initial meeting, Ekuma was presented with financial support and numerous enticing prospects. Rather than pursuing immediate gratification, he opted to return to academia and fulfill his legal studies.

“On 19th January 2022, when the offers were placed before you, you chose education! You made the best choice. Today you are a 2025 law graduate,” he stated on Monday.

He further commended Ekuma’s discernment, adding: “You could have chosen to take the money and walk away to temporary comfort, but you were wise to choose education. Today you have both education and the money, and more ahead!”

From street vending in Lagos traffic to graduating from university as an attorney, Ekuma’s narrative has evolved into one of the most inspiring success stories to arise from social media fame.
