JUST IN: SUPREME COURT’S JUSTICE CHIMA CENTUS NWEZE IS DEAD

On Monday, the Supreme Court formally acknowledged the death of Justice Nweze.
In a brief statement, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, confirmed Nweze’s death, saying he got the news with shock and dismay.
āHon. Justice Nweze was an astute and erudite jurist. His lordshipās numerous decisions have shaped, impacted and developed our law and jurisprudence. He was a disciplined, hardworking, and courageous judicial officer.
āThe NBA President condoles with the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kayode Ariwoola, GCON, the entire Nigerian Judiciary, the Government and People of Enugu State, friends and family of Hon. Justice Nweze over the demise of his lordship and prays that the Almighty God comforts his lordshipās family and friends,ā the statement partly read.
Justice Nweze, who was born on September 25, 1958, in Obollo, Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, made a significant contribution to the judiciary. His election to the Supreme Court in 2014 by then-President Goodluck Jonathan, on the suggestion of the National Judicial Council, represented a watershed moment in his remarkable legal career.
