CAF: OSIMHEN MAKES 10-MAN SHORTLIST FOR 2023 MEN’S PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Nigeria forward, Victor Osimhen has made it into the 10-man shortlist for the 2023 CAF Men’s Player of the Year.
The Confederation of African Football announced the nominees on their official X platform on Friday.
Two weeks ago, CAF released a 30-man shortlist for the award and has now further pruned it to one-third of that ahead of the award ceremony.
Osimhen is the overwhelming favourite to claim the award following a superb 2022/23 campaign for Napoli.
The Nigeria international scored 26 goals in 32 league appearances to help the Partenopei win their first league title in over three decades.
The 24-year-old registered five more goals in the UEFA Champions League.
The striker was also the top scorer in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series with 10 goals.
His Napoli teammates, Frank Zambo-Anguissa, Vincent Aboubacar, Riyad Mahrez, Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi are also on the shortlist.
Other nominees are Sadio Mane, Yassine Bounou, Sofyan Amrabat and Yousef En-Nesyri.
The City of Marrakech, Morocco will host the 2023 CAF Awards Gala on December 11.
