PRES. TINUBU LEAVES ABUJA TO ATTEND COP28 CLIMATE SUMMIT IN DUBAI
With the theme “Unite, Act, and Deliver,” President Bola Tinubu left Abuja on Wednesday for Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, to attend the COP28 Climate Summit, which will take place on December 1 and 2, 2023.
Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesman, claims this.
“Mindful of the severe impact of climate change on Nigeria, such as desertification, flooding, erosion, drought, and national security risks arising therefrom, President Tinubu will maximise the opportunity afforded by the platform to advocate increased financial and technical support for developing nations, while reminding developed countries of their public pledge to provide $100 billion annually for support to localized initiatives to address climate change-related challenges,” the statement partly read.
“The President’s message will also focus on holding businesses and institutions accountable, reflecting Nigeria’s dedication to sustainable and responsible practices.”
Tinubu will make a national statement at the world leaders’ summit, which will be held on December 1 and 2, 2023, with the theme “Unite, Act, and Deliver.” In it, he will stress Nigeria’s position on a number of thematic problems, such as climate finance and renewable energy.
In addition to other events hosted by the Nigerian delegation, he is anticipated to take part in significant side events in Dubai that will further advance his declared commitment to actively pursue foreign direct investment for increased wealth creation and revenue expansion in the nation.
During the 2024 budget presentation, he also told the National Assembly that the Nigerian team will try to leave COP28 with concrete promises and will seek to get significant financial pledges that will support Nigeria’s energy transition.
Leading government representatives accompany the president to the summit, which is also known as the Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP28), or the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference.
